Open Studio 4/10

Today I was joined by Sejal and her very interesting (and very large) painting project. Sejal is developing a painting that expresses the cosmology she learned about in Guatemala.

Here you can see her preliminary sketches.

And here a larger version of the actual paintings. The tree is representative of the axis mundi that connects this world and the spirit world. Each direction is representative of the different elements and has an associated color. To find out more be sure to talk to Sejal!

Friday 4/3

Last Friday Ronnie showed up and did some work in in her sketchbook.

She uses a multimedia approach. She says she likes using acrylic craft grade paint because they have a nice flowing consistency and they're really cheap. That had never occurred to me but she's quite right.

Looks like she was also using a mix of watercolor and pens too.

A pretty impressive finished product. Ronnie commented about how sketchbooks offer more creative freedom due to the fact that there's no stress to create a "finished" product. Pressure can interfere with the creative process. Sometimes we have to trick ourselves out of that pressure.

And here is my current project. Believe it or not this mess of green foam and yellow terry cloth will be transformed into a puppet. I've got a long way to go.

See you next Friday!

Friday 3/28

Another Friday, another round of artmaking. Here's what you missed out on-

Sejal being very surprised when I took her picture. She's working on a MAMMOTH SIZE ATC. Artwork that spans 3 cards and they all interconnect. Three different people create three interlocking images. We can thank Rawn for the great idea.

Laura was getting all psychedelic with her cards last week. Don't look too hard at the images or you might get dizzy and start seeing vapor trails.

Becky, a first time OSFer, put on the hard hat and went to work. Check out some of what she got done.

Sketchbook paper experiments.

More sketches and a pretty sweet ATC. She used cut paper to create the intricate pattern. Hope we didn't scare her off with all the FREE PIZZA and AWESOME COMPANY. I'm being sarcastic, can you tell?

If you're reading this and haven't come yet, you should stop by and make some artwork. You'll be happy you did.
